In module version 1.x – no. In module version 2.x and up – yes.
If you are on module version 1.x, then you can change your categories in Smart Vendor, but you must manually make the same changes in your ecommerce back end as well – these changes MUST be made at the same time to prevent your inventory from becoming "split" between the two versions of your category names.
In module version 2.0 Category ID linking was added and now the website is directly aware of the Smart Vendor identity and can add, change, rename and even delete (see additional FAQ entry for delete function details).
